Superconducting

earwireNiobium

Today was a great day. For one, it was my day off and two, I found these beautiful Niobium earring wires at Pam’s Bead Garden. As I imagined how these would work well with my copper jewelry designs, I placed them in my hand and saw this image. They were positioned magically into symmetry! Immediately I saw a butterfly. What do you see? After deciding to photograph and submit them to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge: “Symmetry,” I found more information about the metal and its many amazing uses in medical devices such as pacemakers.

Niobium earring wire hooks are hypoallergenic and naturally nickel-free, which means that most people with metal allergies can wear them without irritation. Niobium earring findings are also corrosion resistant and scratch-resistant.

Niobium is used in various superconducting materials. These superconducting alloys, also containing titanium and tin, are widely used in the magnets of MRI scanners. Other applications of niobium include its use in welding, nuclear industries, electronics, optics, numismatics, and jewelry. In the last two applications, niobium’s low toxicity and ability to be colored by anodization are particular advantages.

Just the Beginning

Certain things catch your eye, but pursue only those that capture the heart.
– Ancient Indian Proverb

Starting something new is not always easy, like blogging, a new workout routine, drinking aloe with ginger in the morning, you get the picture. I am happy to say, I started working with new materials that will ensure that my jewelry is more durable than ever, and solve the problem of short-term vs long-term. It’s a time consuming and very detail oriented process to control a tiny knot between each bead or bead section. So, I’ll be sharing some tips in later posts about my process and the glamorous gemstones that captured my heart! — Off now to drink that aloe juice. ❤

Winter Can Be Fun

Life isn’t about getting and having, it’s about giving and being.
–Kevin Kruse

snowBlower

Captured some amazing light this morning.
A snow day with no time to relax. While I was busy working on photographing a new bracelet that I later posted to my Instagram, my husband was plowing the street and helping our neighbors move 13 inches of fluffy snow. He is an inspiration to me with his desire to get stuff done, and the right way! While he’s working, I’m having fun. Winter is a great season for me to experiment and design new a new jewelry line.

Turquoise with gold is very elegant.
Here are some photos of my new line. A pristine color combination that is peaceful, cool, and is a reflection of the clear blue sea and warm sparkly sand. I’m drawn to create with the large faceted Chalcedony beads because of their light reflecting quality and translucency.

Teapots

A unique design demands attention.
A bracelet wrapped around the spires of the castle teapot I designed and built. I named this bracelet Kailani, the Hawaiian name for sea and sky. A unique layered bracelet with stunning large faceted, translucent turquoise Chalcedony beads compliment the earthy Picture Jasper beads. Nature is pretty amazing isn’t it! A pretty and very light weight vintage chain adds strength and a luxe to this sea worthy bracelet. Handcrafted with genuine faceted Citrine gemstones. Hand knotted between each bead section with high quality bead cord for strength. More details on the jewelry design page or at my Etsy shop.
