Purple Stones

Amethyst is February’s Birthstone. I always love to dig up something unusual, but this month, Amethyst stands alone. There is no other gemstone for February.

A lot of people love the color purple, and  it looks fabulous with gold. I’ve been designing with variety of amethyst and tanzanite stones. My pieces are very earthy with the warm jasper tones that are a nice surprise with the sparkle of purple stones.

Amethyst is quartz. It ranges in color from pale to deep purple. Bands of color are common in specimens from some regions. Heating amethyst causes the color to change to yellow or gold, turning the amethyst into citrine!

Whatever colors I’m inspired by, originality is the key to creating. I strive to employ my best hand-picked beads in every piece. I want you to feel happy that you’ve made a personal choice when wearing and giving one-of-a-kind artisan jewelry.

It’s Quiet on Beaver Island

In response to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge: “Half and Half.”

It was a quiet morning at the marina on Beaver Island. I decided to photograph the morning light and capture the stillness of the water, and its reflections from the lighthouse. This is Lake Michigan on a misty, gray morning in June. As I stepped off
the boat onto the dock, I remembered a photography tip from my Dad, “watch the horizon line, make it straight.” I quietly walked down the dock to an open boat slip, not to disturb the other boaters still sleeping. Normally, I don’t divide a landscape image in half
when I compose a shot, but this time it was a perfect opportunity to blend the sky
with the water.

Beaver Island Chart

Beaver Island is a great boating destination if you want to get away from crowds of vacationing people from down state, what we refer to in Michigan as, “fudgies”. It offers great sunsets, and a laid-back atmosphere. It is approximately 30 miles off the coast, with two ferry services from Charlevoix. It is the largest Island in Lake Michigan.

Anchor Your Happiness

In response to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge: “Symbol.”

Anchor

Sunrise at the Marina at Northport, MI — Photo by Tresa Meyer Clark

A customer of mine told me that anchors have a lot of meaning to her and that she was having some health issues. When I asked her to explain, she said, “an anchor is a symbol of strength and stability.” She inspired me to make more anchor jewelry and I wrote this.

Anchor your happiness, anchor your love.
Anchor your faith, hope and healing, from the stars up above.
From the heavens to the sea, anchor happiness,
Anchor your dreams.

Light the Way

Photography Class – Day 10

Theme: Mystery & Lighting Effects.

A photograph can create a certain mood and communicate an idea that transcends its subject. Today, share an image that creates a sense of mystery. A lone mitten on the sidewalk. A trail leading off into the distance. Your dog’s deep brown eyes. Intrigue us with the feeling of uncertainty.

DockandShadows

Wonder what happens here after dark? I’m intrigued by the contrast between the light and dark forms and the shadows. What kind of light would be cast at night by the one single mushroom lamp-post, or maybe there are more. What does this walkway lead to and is this safe?

Thanks for reading and wondering!

Connection Sensibility

Photography Class – Day Six

Connection: There are many ways to interpret this theme: from a gadget to a handshake, from a bridge to a gathering among friends. What’s yours?

Artistic Connection
I think most artists would express the word “connection” as stimuli they are bombarded with, making connections from one visual or idea to another. A sensibility or the ability to appreciate and respond to complex emotional or aesthetic influences.

Nature is incredibly amazing. The three druzy stones are my inspiration for the packaging graphics, a combination of the nautical and wedding concepts. I made the connection when adding the knotted cord to a photo shoot for my wedding jewelry packaging. Creating the cord as a graphic decorative element just seemed natural.

Thank you for reading and liking! YES liking and connecting here…

Define Your Bliss

Photography Class – Day Four

What is your idea of bliss? Is it an image of your family, laughing at the dinner table? A state of total relaxation, while lying on the beach? Your latest painting, drying on the canvas?

Bliss: complete happiness, great joy, paradise, or heaven: “wedded bliss”

BraceletAndNauticalBox

The packaging for my nautical jewelry and a bracelet with amazing gemstones.

The meaning of “Bliss” to me, well, I could list an entire cornucopia of utopia that can take on many forms of enjoyment…

• A “turtle” ice cream sundae with hot fudge, pecans and raspberry sauce
• My wedding day: cutting the cake
• A flower arrangement from our beautiful garden
• Designing and creating
• The finishing touches on decorating a favorite space
• A photograph that displays my jewelry design with extraordinary lighting
• A sense of accomplishment when completing a goal
• An amazing boat ride to Mackinac Island on The Great Lakes.

OK for example, when I combine my passion for handcrafted jewelry with graphic design, I’ve spent my creative time accomplishing goals and extending my skills. This, and working with amazing gemstones can be described as great joy!

I designed the graphics for our wedding, and the nautical concept was carried into my jewelry packaging designs.

Superconducting

earwireNiobium

Today was a great day. For one, it was my day off and two, I found these beautiful Niobium earring wires at Pam’s Bead Garden. As I imagined how these would work well with my copper jewelry designs, I placed them in my hand and saw this image. They were positioned magically into symmetry! Immediately I saw a butterfly. What do you see? After deciding to photograph and submit them to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge: “Symmetry,” I found more information about the metal and its many amazing uses in medical devices such as pacemakers.

Niobium earring wire hooks are hypoallergenic and naturally nickel-free, which means that most people with metal allergies can wear them without irritation. Niobium earring findings are also corrosion resistant and scratch-resistant.

Niobium is used in various superconducting materials. These superconducting alloys, also containing titanium and tin, are widely used in the magnets of MRI scanners. Other applications of niobium include its use in welding, nuclear industries, electronics, optics, numismatics, and jewelry. In the last two applications, niobium’s low toxicity and ability to be colored by anodization are particular advantages.

Thank you for reading, You are truly amazing. Yes you!

Just the Beginning

Certain things catch your eye, but pursue only those that capture the heart.
– Ancient Indian Proverb

Starting something new is not always easy, like blogging, a new workout routine, drinking aloe with ginger in the morning, you get the picture. I am happy to say, I started working with new materials that will ensure that my jewelry is more durable than ever, and solve the problem of short-term vs long-term. It’s a time consuming and very detail oriented process to control a tiny knot between each bead or bead section. So, I’ll be sharing some tips in later posts about my process and the glamorous gemstones that captured my heart! — Off now to drink that aloe juice. ❤

I captured a lot of moments on my IPhone this past summer on the Great Lakes with my family. It was a bit hazy that afternoon in August. I uploaded this stunning wooden boat picture to my Instagram page and used a filter to enhance the colors.

So adorable.
He just needs a wooden boat for the next photo shoot.
Most dog lovers have at least two dogs on board.
This guy was alone and wanted attention.
